Euro-fil sumps use a filter sock to trap waste from the water entering the sump. We suggest placing pieces of live rock in the sump to create an added biological filter. You may remove the sponge filter and dividers to create more useable space if you are using submersible pumps and/or an in-sump protein skimmer. Leave in the sponge filter if you are using in-line pumps, and drill your intake holes at the end of the sump near the sponge filter.
The sponge filter will prevent large particles from getting into your in-line pump. When used with in-line water pumps and an external protein skimmer the euro-fil sump can be used as a refugium. Simply place macro algae, miracle mud, and live rock in the center chamber. Mount a light over the sump to keep the algae growing. Make sure to use the sponge filter to prevent any sand from getting into your pumps.
