Brightwell Calcion Powder Product Overview:
Technical Background
Calcium is required for the formation of aragonite, the skeletal material of reef-building invertebrates such as corals, clams, tube worms, and their respective allies. In reef aquaria, maintaining calcium within a range of 412 - 450 ppm will enable corals and other reef-building invertebrates to grow rapidly when all other physical and chemical requirements are met. [Magnesium, strontium, and carbonate ions are also complexed into aragonite, and their importance in a reef aquarium cannot be overstated.] The rate at which calcium is extracted from the water is determined by the stocking density of reef-building livestock, type of lighting, and other biological, physical, and chemical conditions; therefore, each aquarium will have different requirements for the rate of calcium supplementation.

PurpleUp™ uses a unique dual method approach to coralline algae acceleration. This approach is so unique that PurpleUp™ has been awarded a US patent (US patent No. 7,565,883). It contains ionic calcium, which immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. At the same time Super Sea Calcium™ (a 10 micron aragonite powder derived from natural seawater) targets the live rock surface. This dissolves in situ, delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it’s needed. PurpleUp™ also replenishes iodine, an essential element for coralline algae tissues that quickly becomes depleted in closed systems. PurpleUp™ is not a fertilizer, it does not promote the growth of nuisance algae.

Red Sea Coralline Gro - Live Rock Vitalizer Overview
Coralline algae will grow naturally, without any special supplements in all reef systems optimized for hard corals. To promote coralline algae in fish only or soft coral aquariums the alkalinity needs to be maintained at approximately 3 meq/L ( 8.4 dKH ) and specific minor and trace elements need to be readily available.
Concentration Liquid supplement:
1ml will raise the Alkalinity level of 100 liters (25 gal) by 0.1 dKH (0.03 meq/l).

A successful coral reef aquarium depends on how well you maintain the water parameters which are the key to a stable coral environment. All of the elements found in natural seawater play a role in providing optimal water parameters, but some are more significant than others. These elements, the foundation of the reef environment, include the three major elements: Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg) and Carbonates (CO3). All three have a major effect on water chemistry (pH stability, Alkalinity, ionic strength) and on many of the corals' biological processes (skeleton formation, ions exchange, photosynthesis). The foundation elements complement each other in the formation of coral skeleton. If not balanced correctly one of the elements will quickly limit healthy coral growth. Maintaining balanced levels of the Foundation Elements (Ca, KH & Mg) creates optimal water conditions for promoting strong and healthy coral growth. Reef Foundation A is a Calcium & Strontium complex for balanced formation of Coral Skeleton. Reef Foundation A: Contains Calcium, Strontium, and Barium according to the ratios found in coral skeleton.
Red Sea Reef Foundation A Supplement (CA) sizes: 500mL, 1 L
Concentration: 1ml will raise the Ca level of 100 liters (25 gal) by 2ppm.

Calcium, magnesium, strontium and carbonate are the basic foundation elements of coral skeletons. All of these elements need to be available in balanced proportions for positive coral health and growth. Reef Foundation ABC+ is a blend of all of the foundation elements with the addition of potassium, bromine and iodine in the unique ratio required by corals.
Red Sea's Reef Foundation ABC+ is a uniquely formulated powder supplement containing all of the elements of Foundation A, B & C, plus Red Sea's Coral Colors A & B (potassium, boron, iodine & bromine) formulated in the exact ratio as found in the coral skeleton. Although there are slight differences between the coral species, the mean ratio between these elements is fairly constant. Supplementing all of these elements in a fixed ratio according to the uptake of calcium will ensure an accurate replenishment based on the metabolic demands of the corals.
Reef Foundation ABC+ should be dosed on a daily or weekly basis according to the aquarium type and according to a measured uptake of calcium. Over time an imbalance may occur between the foundation elements. If dosing daily, you should test all of the foundation elements weekly and make adjustments with the individual A, B & C supplements. If dosing weekly you should test all of the foundation elements monthly and make adjustments with the individual A, B & C supplements.
